PROJECT 0.4

Data Sauce

Client: Data Sauce
Design & Development: Aaron Grieve
Branding: Aaron Grieve

Tzvi at Data Sauce got in touch with me after seeing my previous portfolio, he wanted something for his SEO business that would make people stop and play for a while, something out of the ordinary for his industry, this is what we came up with together.

CHALLENGE

Making SEO fun is always a challenge, but with a name like Data Sauce it throws out convention and offers the creative mind a lot of playful scope. Tzvi wanted something playful and fun, something that kept people playing or at the very least thinking "That was cool".

Solution

I wanted to use the "Sauce" as the inspiration for the branding and interactivity on the website, at first I was playing with SVG filters for a Gooey Effect, but it's not well supported across browsers, so I decided a huge river of sauce was the only option on the home page, so the first thing you see is an interactive pool of Data Sauce.

SKILLS & MATERIALS: HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, CMS

There's lots going on in this project from custom JavaScript to Webflow's inbuilt interactions, the whole site is powered by the Webflow CMS so the team can update images and text as they see fit whilst not breaking the designs integrity. The projects section is powered by the CMS with conditional logic for any fields not needed or filled out.

Layout

Some parts of the Data Sauce website feel quite standard and that's a good thing, because if your visitor has to learn how to use your website from the ground up that can be challenging for them so a level of normality is appropriate, but the site also features some really interesting compositions from the use of circular imagery to the bold typography.
